School Framework

School Calendar and hours of Operation

The school year generally begins at the beginning of February and concludes mid December. It consists of two semesters, each with two terms. There is a two week holiday break between Terms 1, 2 and 3 and six weeks after Term 4.

School commences at 8.30 am and finishes at 2.45 pm. Lunch is from 12.20 pm to 1.15 pm

The Curriculum

Farm Cove Intermediate School adheres to the New Zealand education curriculum, and staff maintain an ongoing review process to ensure the needs of students are being met.

The school has a specialist Physical Education teacher and all children are expected to take part in the programme. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports at school, zone and Auckland championship level.

Outdoor Education and Excursions

School camps are held on alternate years. Field trips are made to support curriculum studies.

Cultural Activities

The school has a large choir which takes part in the Auckland Choir Festival for schools every second year, and is part of a local festival during the alternate year.

A theatrical production is staged every second year. This year's production is The Three Musketeers.

Our large Kapa Haka group is a significant part of all official occasions.

Personal Framework

Homework

Homework is set regularly. Parents or caregivers are asked to help children organise time each night for the completion of homework.

Reporting on your Child's progress

Formal reports are distributed just before mid-year interviews. During the fourth term, Year 7 students receive assessment statements with voluntary interviews set. Year 8 students receive a final Graduation Statement in December. Interviews are also held in Term 1.

Other forms of formal and regular reporting are written reports by specialist teachers at the end of each block and Personal Progress Portfolios which are sent home each term.

Communication

Newsletters are our main method of communication and are emailed at the beginning of each month and can also be accessed via our comprehensive website. The school runs curriculum evenings specifically designed to inform parents of current curriculum trends and the school's programme.

Meetings specifically for homestay parents are also held regularly.

School Assemblies

Whole school assemblies are held weekly. Important announcements are made and visitors may be invited to contribute.

Lunches

For those who are unable to bring a cut lunch, food may be ordered before school daily through our excellent tuckshop.

School Discipline

Parents/caregivers need to be aware of the school rules. We expect students to behave responsibly at all times, and maintain high standards of dress, behaviour and achievement.

Personal Gooming and Uniforms

All students must wear the complete Farm Cove uniform at all times. For more information about our school uniform click here.
